In order to keep Chief Ray Downey's memory alive and name remembered, the Downey family has set up the "Deputy Chief Raymond Downey Scholarship Charity Fund". This fund has been set up by the family so that they can continually give to others as Chief Ray Downey has done throughout his lifetime. Your tax deductible donation can help to make this scholarship charity fund and the memory of Chief Ray Downey continue for many years to come. Each donor will be acknowledged with a letter from the Downey Family and will receive a tax receipt for the full amount of their donation, which is 100% tax-deductible.
Both on the job and with his family, he has helped many people and touched upon countless lives, and for that the family would like to give in his name. This fund will be controlled by the Downey Family and distributed among the many organizations that Chief Ray Downey felt so strongly about. Some of these organizations include: New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation, The Marty Lyons Foundation, Inc., Our Lady of Rosary Knights of Columbus, FF Thomas Elsasser Fund, as well as providing scholarships for Deer Park High School Student Athletes.
By doing this, the family wishes to honor the legacy of Ray Downey, a wonderful Husband, a supportive Dad, and an outstanding Poppy.
OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS: In addition to the fund described on this site, Hofstra University and Stony Brook University are hosts to scholarships in Chief Downey's memory. Longtime supporters of Hofstra Wrestling and Stony Brook Football, the family created The Ray Downey Sr. Scholarship and Wrestling Fund at Hofstra University and the Deputy Chief Raymond M. Downey Scholarship Endowment at Stony Brook University. These scholarships will help young students achieve a quality education and enable them to participate in excellent Division 1 College programs.
